My Ability That Will Have An Impact On The World April 27, 2012

One trait that I would have would not being able to stay still for more than five seconds. For example stomping my feet, tapping my pencil, snapping, and patting the desk. I think I could do something good with this like being a construction worker, or helping kids with things like fixing their bike or fixing one of their toys. I could also look for lost kids or animals beings i can’t stay still long enough to do anything else. I think that would make a big impact on the world. I love helping people and animals whenever I have the chance. D.A.R.E. Report April 27, 2012

This report is about what we have learned in D.A.R.E., what we think about the D.A.R.E. program, how we feel about the stuff we have learned in D.A.R.E., why it is important to make good choices, and what we learned that will help us be drug free. This will be my D.A.R.E. report.

What I have learned in D.A.R.E. is very helpful. Now I know that smoking is a lot more dangerous than it seems. For example it can give you lung cancer, colds, there are more than 200 poisons in tobacco, it can cause yellow teeth, smelly breath and worst of all more than 400,000 people die each year from smoking. That makes me a little sad because I know some people who smoke. They always cough. And I know some day it will be more than just coughing.

I feel that the D.A.R.E. program is really helping us kids understand how that bad stuff like smoking and drinking actually affects us. I know it has helped me understand a lot. I already knew that stuff like cigarettes and alcohol was bad for you but I didn’t know all the details. Like a powerful substance nicotine is what causes addiction to cigarettes, and that when you smoke marijuana it looks like you are drunk. I never knew that stuff before D.A.R.E.

In D.A.R.E. we learned about gateway drugs. Gateway drugs are drugs for beginners. Like for starters they would start smoking a regular cigarette. Then maybe marijuana and so on. We got a lot of details about the gateway drugs. The details helped me understand about why people wanted to smoke. And nicotine makes people addicted to the cigarette.

We had these demonstrations of how bad cigarettes are for you. These demonstrations are like toys that help us understand better. The toys had names they were Smoking Suzy, Mr.  Diplip and The Jar of Tar. Smoking Suzy helped us understand how much tar was in one cigarette. Mr. Diplip helped us understand  how you get tumors and all kinds of nasty stuff in your mouth by chewing tobacco. The Jar of Tar demonstrated how much tar an average smoker would get in a year. I thought The Jar of Tar was the best demonstration  because when I saw all that tar I knew that was very bad for you.

I am always going to be drug free because of what I have learned in D.A.R.E. For example I’m going to be drug free because marijuana causes breathing problems, it affects your brain and body, it can cause short-term memory loss, inability to concentrate, and marijuana smoke contains 50 to 70 percent more of some cancer causing chemicals than tobacco smoke. Also just like cigarettes marijuana can be addictive.

What I don’t understand is why some people don’t want to be drug free. It’s very bad for you. Who wants to be a drug addict, or be addicted to cigarettes. Would you rather be sick or healthy. I’d choose healthy.

The number one reason people do drugs is because of depression. If I was depressed I wouldn’t give in to drugs. I would just let it go or think about other things instead of why I’m depressed. Or you could get your friends to help you out. I know my friends would help me.

It’s important to make good choices because if you don’t you could get in trouble or get hurt. Make good choices and good things will happen to you like a good job, a nice house, and not end up on the streets.

Also in D.A.R.E. we learned about peer pressure We learned about five different peer pressures they are heavy peer pressure, teasing peer pressure, indirect pure pressure, positive peer pressure, and friendly peer pressure.

This is all of what I have learned in D.A.R.E. This has taught me to NEVER do drugs. And I wont do drugs. I promise to never do drugs!

Success Throughout 6th Grade April 23, 2012

What has made me successful through the school year would be good advice.  I listen to the teachers hints and tips on how to do things. It has helped me a lot. Good advice I think is the same thing as listening so basically I’m listening to the teachers to help me be successful.

What has REALLY helped me is my friends. If I don’t get something for example a math question they would explain it to me and I would get it right next time. My friends have helped me as much as the good advice the teachers gave me.

A other thing that has really helped me would be taking my time and checking. Taking my time really helps me so I don’t misspell a word or skip a passage when I’m reading. Checking makes sure that you didn’t skip a question or answer the wrong thing. These two thing will really help you!

Getting rest is also important. If your tired during the achievement test then your going to miss some question. If you get rest then you will get those questions right. Rest is just as important as anything else.

If your mad at something or someone let it go until later and then talk it out with the person your mad at. If you are thinking about something other than the test then your not concentrating. Concentrating is the same thing as thinking. And if your not thinking you are going to miss some questions. Think about the test during the test!

All of this advice will make you successful. I know it has made me successful.

Advice For My Classmates April 20, 2012

Some of my advice for my classmates would be to listen or pay attention. Listening to the teacher is your number one chance of passing or not getting in trouble. Listening to the teacher gives you hints on how to do questions easier or even just learn new things.

Some more advice would be to take your time. Taking your time is very important when it comes to writing in Language Arts. A reason would be because if your writing really fast or reading a passage on the achievement test you could misspell a word or skip a whole paragraph so take your time.

Also check your work after your done with a test or worksheet. Carelessness as Mrs. Bowlby would say. If you check over your work after your done you may realize that you circled the wrong answer, or skipped a question. Checking is also very important.

The Maze Runner By James Dashner March 6, 2012

Dear Mr. McGuire,

Our assignment for today is to write about how our author makes our book exciting. So James Dashner makes my book exciting by……

I think James Dashner makes The Maze Runner exciting by making it very thrilling and making you not want to stop reading. Chapter after chapter. I don’t know how he came up with an awesome book like The Maze Runner.

James Dashner makes it a fantasy and a thrilling book. Another way James Dashner makes it an exciting book is that he ends the chapters with a hook. For example “That’s when it happened.” Then the chapter ends and you want to go to the next chapter.

Makes you want to keep reading doesn’t it. There was a very good part where all kinds of sirens went off and something awesome happened. (You have to read the book to find out.)

Also in a way The Maze Runner is kind of funny. Their words in the Glade is funny. (The Glade is where they live.) They got words like Shank, Slopper, Slicer, Runner, and all sorts of other things. For example they would say something like, “Shuck it”.

These are other ways James Dashner makes The Maze Runner exciting. A other way he makes The Maze Runner exciting is the beginning because Thomas wakes up in a dark box surrounded by people.

One other thing James Dashner does to make his book exciting is that he made it to where every character in the book has lost their memory. So all of the characters have no memory of their past. Or how they got there, where they came from, or their old family and friends.

The Son Of Neptune #2 By Rick Riordan February 24, 2012

Our assignment for today is to make inferences about the main character in our book. My book is The Son Of Neptune By Rick Riordan. I’m making inferences about Percy Jackson.

I think that Percy Jackson is mature in battle with monsters. Percy Jackson tries to find an enemies weakness and thinks of a battle strategy in the midst of battle. He doesn’t get scared or back out of a battle.

Also Percy Jackson leaves no friend behind! He will go back for them no matter what. For example if he and his friends were fighting a dragon and his friends got pinned down by the dragon he would go back for them even if it meant his life would end. He cares about his friends. The Romans were taught to be selfish and not be as kind as Percy would have acted. That doesn’t mean all Romans are like that though. This is how Percy Jackson is mature in battle and it might not be only in battle.

Percy Jackson is also a little rude to the gods. Which they don’t appreciate. For example the gods decided to give Percy a really AWESOME gift. (I can’t tell when or what the gift is that would be a spoiler.) He refused the gift and wanted a other one. There is a other god in the Heroes Of Olympus series. His name is Terminus. Terminus guards the city of New Rome. There were rules you have to follow like NO WEAPONS in the city and Percy didn’t trust Terminus with his weapon.

Jim Basketball Jones Is Awesome! February 17, 2012

Jim Basketball Jones came to our school and he was telling everybody to feel good about themselves. Nobody is better than you. I am writing what motivates me and what makes me who I am. Also what the assembly meant to me.

The assembly meant a lot to me. I think this assembly was better than the assembly 2 years ago. The assembly taught me that no one is better than me, no one is perfect, but we all matter and we are all very important. I follow my step dad. His name is BJ. He is a paramedic and he became very successful. He went to collage for 4 years and he makes a decent amount of money. My motivation is my step dad. When I see how good he is doing with his job and his life. I think I would like to be as successful as him. I don’t want to be a paramedic though. My mom makes me what I am.
